Wow! This was my biggest week yet, volume wise. This week I ran a total of 74.1 km. The total time running was 7 hours and 45 minutes.
I started really training for this in January, but I spent December building up consistency with daily runs. I am currently running 6 out of 7 days a week. I take Fridays off as Saturdays are my big run days and I want to have fresh legs for each new distance. Yesterday I did 31 km on a treadmill. If I’m being honest, it was a bit mind numbing as the scenery never changes. One plus, though, is that I am getting through a lot of really great audio books! Why a treadmill? I have a strong dislike for being cold. Factor in a mild case of Raynaud Syndrome, that leaves my fingers numb and dead-looking, and I really don’t love running in the cold. So, for most of the winter I have put in all of my kilometers on a treadmill.
Today I took advantage of the milder weather and ran 15 km outside. It was so rejuvenating to be out, enjoying the crisp fresh air. The added benefit of running outside, is that I can get up and run before my kids are awake. I appreciate this, as it means I’m not sacrificing time with them to get my longer runs in. For those of you who don’t know, I have 4-year-old twins. As I work full-time during the week, having to fit in my long runs during their awake time on the weekend can lead to some pretty bad cases of mom guilt. I can only hope the lessons they learn about doing your part to help others, and committing to a goal, are a sufficient trade off for the time away.
You will hear a lot about food in this blog. I am a bit of a plant-based foody. I am constantly trying new recipes. Todays winner was Peanut Butter Chocolate Vegan Overnight Oats. Coming back from my run to these was a treat. They were delicious, like eating heathy peanut butter cups in oatmeal form. If you like oatmeal, I highly recommend them!
That’s all for today. Hope everyone has a great week!
